Indeed Karentia is right! There are two Native beliefs that relate to what she said.
1) Pray for yourself first & ask Great Spirit to pass along your blessings. If you're not flying straight you can't help anyone. (It's like the buddy system.)
2) If we all share a little then we all have alot! It's quality not quantity that matters. be it time, energy or things it's all good!
I'll be sharing the original teaching from which "The Secret" comes from. He literally only took 50% of the teaching putting way out of Balance, & stripping it from being mindful of the greater good of the self, & the All. I'll be writing it in "Sharing Sacred Fire". It's a basic teaching that all of my students must nor only know by heart, but practice.
Let me relate this true story that just happened over this past holiday season. It happened in a typical greasy spoon diner. The waitress was bustling to keep up with the growing crowd that was coming in for the lunch rush.
The waitress escorted the two women to their booth. They looked stressed out, & worn. They all but collapsed from fatigue into their seats. The server gave them their menus & took their order for drinks. Seeing that her customers needed time to make their selections she hurried off to take care of the other patrons in her station.
The two women, who looked to be in the late thirties, early forties, began to vent what troubled them. A family member of theirs had died. Instead of it being a time of the family coming together to heal from grief, the worst of behaviors had erupted! Greed over inheritance, & old feuds resurfaced made for harsh words & fierce actions. The conversation then moved onto how each of these ladies had noticed that the world at large had seemed to become a dark, uncaring place. Each relayed stories of how they were treated unkindly or of witnessing people being rude to each other. Sorrow mixed with despair, & they sat silent with tears brimming in their eyes after what they shared with each other.
Unbeknown st to them a man sat in the next booth. He had heard every word, & was moved by what the two women has said. He wanted to do something to show them that the world did still have caring people in it...but how? Then it dawned on him & he smiled. Hurriedly he ate his lunch as his work break was coming to an end. He signaled the waitress, who also happened to be the server of the two ladies, over & whispered in her ear. She nodded, smiled & continued attending the other patrons.
Having paid for his meal the man left to go back to work.
After awhile the two ladies called the waitress in order to pay for their meal. To their shock they found out it was already paid for with the message of "Happy Holidays". The act of kindness struck them dumb, & brought tears down their cheeks. They asked the server who had done this. She replied that she didn't know, & that the man left quietly.
This act of generosity moved the women to the core. They wanted to thank their mysterious angel...but how? They went home pondering this with hope, & gratitude.
Several weeks later the man returned to the diner. The waitress immediately recognized him. She quickly dashed off to her locker to retrieve what she had been keeping there. Returning she handed the man a card left by the two women. It was his turn to smile , & be struck dumb.
The card was addressed to the "Kind Holiday Stranger".
It read,"One seed can start a garden. One smile can lift a spirit. One candle can light a room. One conversation can start a friendship.
One person can make a difference...that one is you." Handwritten inside was a message, "Your kindness left us speechless! You truly know the meaning of Christmas! We both will have a much better brighter holiday due to your wonderful gesture. I will in turn will try & bring some joy to someone else this season.
Many thanks for a needed boost in the holiday spirit.
May God bless you now in the New Year!"
