One of my favorite quotes comes from none other than Dr. Suess himself

"Be who you are. Because those who mind don't matter. And those who matter don't mind."

Quote:
Elder's Meditation of the Day - April 13

from White Bison

"Once you make a friend, a friend never leaves you, even to death. So a friend is really hard to find."

--Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

Once, an Elder told me he made a decision to be my friend. He said this friendship wasn't based on my behavior or how I acted; he said the friendship was based on his decision. He decided to be my friend. This friendship has happened like he said. Even if I don't see him for a long time, or if I get mad at him, he has never changed his decision. This is true friendship.

Great Spirit, I'm glad you are this kind of Friend.

I get their meditation of the day every day. I don't get to read them every day, but sometimes I'm drawn to do so when I need to.

I would like to thank my friends, just for being my friends.

Yesterday's quote from my calendar which is actually a quote from "A Course in Miracles"

I am not the victim of the world I see.

I have invented the world I see.

I received this today and wanted to share it.

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a
cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her
life
and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going
to
make it and wanted to give up She was tired of fighting and struggling.
It
seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots
with
water and placed each on a high fire Soon the pots came to boil. In the
first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last
she
placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a
word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She
fished
the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and
placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.
Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the
carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the
daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the
hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee.
The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma The daughter then asked,
"What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced
the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went
in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the
boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin
outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the
boiling water, its inside became hardened The ground coffee beans were
unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed
the
water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity
knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee
bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but
with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but
changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup,
a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and
stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough
with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the
hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets
hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when
things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you
elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a
carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough
trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to
make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of
everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their
way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you
can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and
heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you
was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling
and everyone around you is crying.

It's easier to build a child than repair an adult. This is so
true.

May we all be COFFEE.

George Carlin (Absolutely Brilliant) - Life

George Carlin's Views on Aging
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If
you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited
about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're
never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a
half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you
back. You jump to the next number, or even a few
ahead.

"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could
be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the
greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even
the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21.
YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened
there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we
had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're
Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's
changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING
40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping
away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your
dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think
you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and
MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70!
After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT
Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete
cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH
bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s,
you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over
100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a
half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes
age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about
them. That is why you pay "them "
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull
you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer,
crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain
idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And
the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you
gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person, who is wit h us our entire life, is
ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether
it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants,
pictures, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your
refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve
it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond
what you can improve, get help.

9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the
mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country
but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them,
at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

and,

One of my very favorites:

Be kinder than necessary to all you meet,
"everyone" is struggling with something.
We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!

Weesa, that's just fanstastic. Why don't you post that at HPANA- at Molly's Table. The folks there would nod and smile in agreement.

I loved the part about the turning and the pushing...that is soooo true. Those are the exact words you always hear! George Carlin- genius philosopher.

Good housekeeping is an exact science.

*guffaws* thank you Maxie - I too am an artist, not a scientist!

And thank you for putting this thread back into the light - I had not been here before, it is very special!

Always loved George Carlin, sad that his light has passed over.

Sorry, don't have any earth lifting words of wisdom for today - heck can't even type...

My house is on the artistic side too. I keep telling my Mom that the Neverending Story should have been about laundry instead of a boy going to a magic world through a book.

As for uplifting words how about a song:

The Wind Beneath My Wings
Larry Henley/Jeff Silbar
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You've been content to let me shine
You always walked a step behind

I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
Only a face without a name
I never once heard you complain

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I'd like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
But you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth
I would be nothing without you

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I'd like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
But you are the wind beneath my wings
You are the wind beneath my wings
